The Hong Kong Pei Hua Education Foundation is a non-profit-making private organization. Its objective is to help China train up competent personnel. Its motto is “nurture ourselves, nurture others”.

In October 1981, the business community of Hong Kong organized a visit to Beijing and Xian. Members of the delegation, while enjoying the magnificent scenery of the motherland, were deeply moved by the efforts made by the Chinese people towards modernization. The delegation was received by Mr. Liao Chengzhi, the then Vice-Chairman of the National People's Congress, who greatly lamented the destroying of talent during the Cultural Revolution. Members shared Mr. Liao's sentiments, and were concerned to make contribution to the motherland's Four Modernizations. After returning to Hong Kong, Dr. Lee Shau Kee, head of the delegation, together with 13 others, including Dr. Ian Fok Chun Wan, Dr. Henry Fong Yun Wah, Dr. Henry Cheng Kar Shun, Mr. Peter Wong Man Kong, invited Dr. Henry Fok Ying Tung, Mr. Wong Kwan Cheng and Dr. Annie Wu Suk Ching to joined forces with them, established the Hong Kong Pei Hua Education Foundation, which came into being in April 1982. Dr. Lee Shau Kee was elected Chairman of the Board of Trustees.

Pei Hua has funded, organized or co-organized more that 600 projects,
largely short training programmes

Pei Hua places emphasis on offering timely assistance to the genuine needy in its project selection. In the late 1980s, we began to focus our support more in areas inhabited by China's ethnic minorities. Our efforts mainly take the form of short training programmes. We have sponsored, organised or co-organised over 750 programmes, with beneficiaries totalling over 1,258,224 (among whom are the around 1.23 million participants of the “Project Warmth Programme For Training Up One Million Farmers”, a programme funded by the Lee Shau Kee Foundation, with Pei Hua playing a part under the leadership of Chairman Lee Shau Kee.)  Students of Pei Hua programmes include many members of ethnic minority groups and come from different parts of the country. Our programmes cover a wide range of disciplines and professions encompassing economics and business administration, tourism and hotel management, tax accounting, English, medicine, interior design, garden management, offshore petroleum industry management, property management, and environmental protection etc.
